WHAT IS LHSA?
LHSA was founded by home school Mom in 1999. The purpose of the group is to bring together homeschool parents that WANT activities and group learning for their kids. 

Over the past eight years the group has been VERY successful in providing cultural fairs, community service projects, a variety of co-op classes, theater arts for all ages, fundraising, and winnings in District, Area, and State championships in a variety of PSIA events.  We also have an end-of-year Promotion Celebration.  The 2008 Promotion Celebration will be our 6th annual party to promote our kids to the next grade level!!!

Our group is in it's nineth year of existence. We have a great group of leaders that bring a variety of ideas and opportunities to life. All families participate in our quarterly business meetings and make the decisions that direct our group. We stay focused on activities for our children.  Any parent is welcome to lead an activity or event OR to sign your child up for an event or activity that enhances your home school.

HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER?
Send an e-mail to membership@lubbockhomeschool.com, include your name and a brief bio about your homeschool or feel free to visit any activity and ask for Dionne Merriot. Our memberships are open to anyone who is currently home schooling. There is no statement of faith, but the officers do sign a statement of faith and the general atmosphere of group activities is Christian.  

Why have memberships? Is LHSA "inclusive" or "exclusive"?

We are not really sure what the whole "inclusive" and "exclusive" buzz is all about in the homeschool communities.  Our best answer is that we are happy to "include" any familiy in our membership and we do not have any personal qualifiers for you to meet politically or spiritually that would "exclude" you from ever becoming a member.  
We define membership as "being organized" and not as "exclusive".    

All members, husbands and wives, are encouraged to come to the quarterly business meetings to plan and participate in the general business of the group.  So, we are completely inclusive on the workings and offerings of LHSA.

Families wanting the stability of a well managed and highly functioning group will appreciate the established organizational base of this group.  Membership allows us to be financially supportive of the activities you want to see for your families.  We work as a team to make the impossible become a reality for the kids.

There are many families that just sit back and observe for a year or two before getting their feet wet in the planning and participating.  But they feel very assured that when they are ready to dive in, that things will be smooth and organized. 

ARE THERE ANY FEES?
Our membership fees are explained in the left column.   Most events, classes, and activities have an associated cost. Leaders of each activity will let you know of the cost. The group fee covers the budgets for community service, field trips, PSIA, web site, group wide activites (the picnic) and general business costs of the group.  GIVE THIS GROUP A TRY! 

How Do I Get Group Info?
Once a membership form and check have been completed your e-mail address will be added to our Yahoo E-group so you can communicate with the whole group. 
We mainly communicate through the website and the yahoo group.  Email is very important!  Those who do not use the internet keep a printed copy of our calendar to attend events.

We have a fabulous school year planned that is full of educational enhancements!
